Vision or Perish
July 28th, 2006 | Michael Pink
We are wrapping up our discussion about day one of the creation story where we learned that light can be a metaphor for vision. Getting vision does more to fuel passion than anything else I know. It will cause you, or those who work with you, to become highly motivated and self disciplined.
Proverbs 29:18 says, “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” The New King James says, “Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint.” The bottom line is that vision produces restraint or discipline and the lack of it produces slackness. Another fruit of fuzzy vision is a lack of direction in the day. You might find yourself being entirely reactive instead of proactive.
I recently wrote out the vision I see for my calling and I review it quite often at the beginning of the day to remind me of what’s important and to get me focused on that. It never ceases to motivate me and to cause me to take charge of my day and be very proactive. That isn’t to say that I don’t expect God to intervene and throw me some unplanned assignments from time to time; but when they come, I am at peace because I know where they fit into the scheme of things and I know God has authorized me to work on them.
Our next segment will deal with Day Two of What the 7 Days of Creation Teach Us About Business.

Hi Michael,
Would you please share your vision.
Over the years I have had different vision statements. Currently I am at a loss.
I had thought hearing yours would help.
Thanks

I’m having trouble printing your entire page and my company IT boss says it’s the format you’re using so I thought I’d mention that because when I print your letter to save in an open notebook, it cuts off the words on the right side of the page. It didn’t used to do that. Thanks, Frank

Fantastic email, Michael. Thanks for reminding me of the importance of having a clear, written down vision. Please spend some more time on how to develop a vision statement in the future. God Bless

I know what you say is true - but I have never been able to see, with any motivation or seriousness, past today!! - Please tell me how - before it’s too late.

As usual, your comments on vision are right on the money! Thanks for sharing, and I look forward to seeing you again in September.

I struggle with creating a vision plan a midst a secular world and peers that are constantly in a reactive mode of selling with eyes only focused on the sale rather than the client. What are the elements of a vision plan?

All the more reason you need to create a vision plan! The secular world wants you to think there is no point. Without worrying what format or elements it has, what would you like to get across to someone?
