You Are Called to Heal

June 11th, 2007 | Michael Pink

Want to emulate the ways of God? Consider Psalm 147:2-6. The third of seven characteristics of God’s ways described here is: “He heals…” Who does He heal? He mends and makes whole the broken hearted. One business application readily appears. Our job is to mend and make whole that which is broken. Find a need and meet it.

The broken are, by nature, disappointed. They thought they had an appointment with one outcome and their appointment was “dissed”. It’s important that you understand there is not only a physical reality to address of something that is broken, be that a process, a product or a plan; but there is an emotional reality as well. There is heartache and emotional distress when the plan, the dream, the vision, seems to fail.

When you come alongside them to heal, make sure you first plumb the heart and tap into the emotional pain that is inevitable, be that in the form of frustration, depression, etc. Your job is to heal, but first you must introduce hope and that requires understanding their pain and that requires caring and that requires knowing and that requires questions - good ones. (If you need some help with that, get the Moses Questioning Strategy right now.)

God wants to equip you to heal. He has made a way. Are you ready? Then get going and don’t waste time trying to heal those who are not sick or don’t even know they are sick. Look for those who know they are sick and want help. They are your number one target. The rest can wait.

I am sending you to open their eyes, so they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.

    Acts 26:17-18.

So the Lord says to His disciples, and - because we are His disciples also - He says to you today: ‘You are the salt of the earth’. What picture was He painting in that illustration? The reason there needs to be salt. If you go into the Old Testament, you find that the sacrifices there were never ever made with leaven. Leaven was symbolic, or typical, of sin - and never was leaven to enter into any sacrifice, but the sacrifices were always to have salt within them. Leaven is a picture of a corrupting force within the world, this antichrist system - but salt is seen to be something that is pure, something that is white, something that is holy and acceptable unto God. We find that right throughout the whole of Scripture, salt becomes emblematic of the covenant between God and His people. In ancient times, in the secular world, salt was symbolic of fidelity, of purity, of friendship.

Now my friends, that is the need for salt, that is why we need salt - and we need to be salt in this world because of the awful corruption, depravity and sinfulness of this world system around us. Then we see, secondly, from this picture of salt that salt brings preservation: the preservation that salt brings. You will know, I’m sure, that in the ancient world there was no ice-making machines, there was no refrigeration, and the only way that they had to preserve meat was to salt it down and rub salt into it, or soak it down in a saline solution.

Do you believe humanity is rotting? Do you believe that? I hope you haven’t swallowed the evolutionary philosophy that is channeled into children in school, and to us through the television and the radio and the newspapers, periodicals and magazines. We are continually bombarded by it: that humanity is getting better and better by the day - it is a lie! It is rotting, it is decaying, and that is why God had to destroy it with a flood - but I want you to note that after the flood they were as sinful as they were before the flood. Humanity does not, and cannot, change - and what the Lord Jesus was saying in verse 13 of chapter 5 of Matthew’s gospel is this: ‘Humanity without Me is a dead body, rotting and falling apart. You, My followers, are the salt of the earth that must be rubbed into the flesh to halt that decomposition’. He is saying that the Christian must be rubbed into the world.

Thank you for that email. This is just what I need right now. A few of us are going to be going to pray for a sick friend and we are believing God for the victory. This message is very timely. I am going to print it off and pass it to the others for encouragement. Hallelujah! What a mighty God we serve.

As I read this, I too realize that the Holy Spirit has been giving clear direction concerning binding up the brokenhearted. The morning it was posted, I pondered and wrote in my journal about perception, and how often their are people who are hurting terrible, and are sore. Sore from things that have occured, and by this occurring their perception and mindsets may actually be wrong. As one called to counsel by the Holy Spirit we can actually help to restore the hearts of people.. restoring hope, so that a person can then regain faith. Without hope, one might struggle with faith. Without hope, the heart becomes sick. The scripture is that hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when it is recieved.. its like a tree of life. I recognized that the Lord has been speaking and awakening us to see people as broken vessels that God wants to restore.. and even ourselves. That we might be broken, and restored.. and reconstructed… We are the Potters… workmanship, and we can be restored.. not to the former thing.. nor with the former image, but with the new vision.. that God desires for us to be.

    Blessings.

One of Gods ways is to use your own hurts and weaknesses to help others. This is what I recently came to understand in my own life. God forgave me for my mistake and now I share my mistakes and Gods forgiveness in a way that others can be helped. Forgiveness is key to the healing process in the workplace. Jesus said in Mat 17:4 that He “Glorified” his Father and that was the work that God gave him here on earth. I think of that word “glorified” as making God look good. Jesus pointed all to the Father in all that he did. I discovered that my mistakes and weakeness were an opportunity for God to be strong in my life and I am now tring to “make God look good” (Glorify) Him. So often a hurt from your personal mis-judgments must be confessed as sin, receive Gods forgiveness and then make God look good by giving Him the credit!!!
I pray this opportunity will open many doors in my life to share about our wonderful God, His forgivenss, and His power to make a second chance out of our workplace goofs.
