Make it Painful to Intruders…

Friday, August 17th, 2007

We are talking about improving our productivity by keeping the pests at bay. It’s a big job but absolutely necessary for success in business. The sixth natural strategy is called “secondary metabolites”. It’s where the plant uses chemical warfare to fight off pests, pathogens and fungus. The plant makes it unpleasant for the offender, even deadly if they persist.

So what’s the lesson here? Simple - Get serious. Don’t reward interruption. Make it costly to the perpetrator. Unfortunately a lot of folks can’t take a hint or even a gentle request so sometimes there has to be a price to pay for that interruption. It might be a stern word of correction, a warning or even withdrawing business from a nuisance vendor.

Using Knowledge Correctly

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

“The tongue of the wise uses knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools pours out foolishness.” (Pro 15:2) It takes wisdom to know when and what to speak. Consider the sales profession. Sales people are most often criticized for talking too much and deservedly so in many cases. Many times we want to tell what we know, get our point across, make our position, benefits, advantages known. A wise man knows how to do that but a fool just pours it out. They may disperse the same knowledge but the one seems foolish and the other wise. This has to do with timing among other things.

A good sales presentation involves a good sense of timing. You certainly don’t want to reveal everything you know in one verbal dump. In sales you need only present benefits that address known needs of your customer. Present these benefits in descending priority beginning with the most significant and working your way down. Don’t present any benefit until needs have been fully disclosed and you understand why those needs matter.

How Much is Enough? Part 2

Sunday, August 12th, 2007

I have asked my very good friend Eric Beck (former International Director of Training for E-Myth Worldwide) to pass on three key insights that will help you in business. Today is the last installment dealing with the very important question of how much is enough. Now, here’s Eric…

Eric Beck, Founder of the Total Integration Executive ProgramSo here’s the punch line: You need a system that lets you discern manna from mammon and brings your business into right action. Manna is provision from God that you did not create and can take no credit for. Mammon, on the other hand, is a controlling spirit which impersonates God - that infests your manna and makes it rot within hours.

How Much Is Enough?

Thursday, August 9th, 2007

I have asked my very good friend Eric Beck (former International Director of Training for E-Myth Worldwide) to pass on three key insights that will help you in business. Today is the second installment dealing with the very important question of how much is enough. Now, here’s Eric…

Eric Beck, Founder of the Total Integration Executive ProgramThank you Michael. As I promised yesterday, let’s look at a biblical system for how anyone in business can obey God’s command to be fruitful and multiply. Does such a thing exist? Yes it really does. But before I tell you about it, here’s the context. The Hebrews, recently freed from slavery, find themselves with no provision in the wilderness on their way to their promised land.

How Are You Working?

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

For the next three emails, I have asked my very good friend Eric Beck to pass on three key insights that will help you in business. Besides having a profoundly Biblical worldview, Eric was the International Director of Training for E-Myth. His insights have been adopted around the world, impacting me, and helping shape the way I see and do business. The business analysis methods alone that he uses can help any business eliminate waste and maximize potential. Take another sip of your coffee and enjoy today’s insight…

Eric Beck, Founder of the Total Integration Executive ProgramFirst off, thank you Michael for that warm introduction. And thank you, for taking time to care about God’s plan for your working life. In an average life of 80 years, you will spend 166,400 hours working. That’s nearly 2/3’s of your waking life. Did you know that Jesus is on record as saying we will all give an account for all that work? “Then he sent for the servants to whom he had given the money, in order to find out what they had gained with it.” Luke 19:15

The “Geek” is Back in Charge!

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

Greetings from the infamous “Geek!”

Michael’s out of town again this week. He left me in charge again (his mistake!), so I’m writing a quick message to you today for 2 reasons - one of which involves FREE gifts for you!

First of all, thank you to all of you who wrote back in support last week after Michael’s now-famous e-mail. For the record, the events really did occur that Michael described, but the part about me being confined to my cubicle was truly intended as a joke. In actual fact, that part was my idea… Michael and I laughed hysterically about it and we decided to share the humor with all of you when we wrote the e-mail that went out.

Now… the 2nd reason I’m writing is because there was such an overwhelming response last week that I tried to twist Michael’s arm into extending the offer. A promise is a promise, though, so it was a one-time offer and it already expired. But! He is out of town… and though I can’t extend last week’s offer, I DID come up with something else for you this week. And, it comes with a grand total of FOUR free gifts for you!! But… there’s another time limit on it - it expires this Friday! (Because that’s when Michael gets back!! :) )

Go check it out right now…

Thanks,

The “Geek”The “Geek”

P.S. I’ve also recorded my own “Geek’s Guide” to downloading products from the internet! It’s a video presentation you can’t get anywhere else, and you can have it for free! Read all about it…

P.P.S. Please buy a lot of stuff this week… I really want to keep this job! ;)

Lesson From a Reluctant Billionaire…

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

A very good friend of mine wanted to see some sales numbers from his sales department. The manager promised a quick response with a full report on all activity, complete with status, explanations, etc. Sounded good, but my friend said that a full report could confuse the issue. He only wanted to see the bare numbers. They would tell the story. Kind of like our last blog where Jesus asks his servants, “How much have you gained by trading?” He didn’t want a story. He wanted the numbers.

How Much Have You Gained by Trading?

Monday, August 6th, 2007

“And it came to pass, that when he was returned, having received the kingdom, then he commanded these servants to be called unto him, to whom he had given the money, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading.” (Luke 19:15) Please notice something here… Jesus is giving a parable about Himself. He gives his servants each a pound of money equal to about three months wages. You do the math. He then gives them one simple command… “Occupy till I come.” According to Barnes commentary, “the word ‘occupy’ here means not merely to possess, as it often does in our language, but to improve, to employ in business, for the purpose of increasing it or of making profit on it.”
