Sons in the Marketplace – Carry His Name
November 5th, 2007 | Michael Q. Pink
Sons in the marketplace know how to carry their God-given name. God the Father gave Jesus the name above every other name that in His name, people would find salvation. No other name would do. The name of Jesus, or Yeshua in the Hebrew, has more authority and power than any other name under Heaven. Jesus often spoke of His name in John saying, “And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do.” “If ye shall ask anything in my name, I will do it.” There are several like it.
Have you ever prayed in His name and it not happen? There are, of course, the standard caveats that give us comfort. It was not His will. It was not His timing, etc. and while that may be true in many cases as James tells us, I believe there is much more to it. I have prayed in His name for things I believe to this moment were in His will, but they failed to come to pass. Was Jesus just kidding? Was it simply because He chose not to override another person’s will so my prayer would be answered? Of course that’s possible, but as long as we accept those pat answers as the only answer, we may be robbing ourselves of spiritual growth.
Andrew Murray writes poignantly on the name of Jesus and points out so clearly that simply closing a prayer with “I ask these things in Jesus name”, falls far short of the intent Jesus had when He promised us the use of His name. Murray says, “Let the Name of Jesus have undivided supremacy in my heart and life! My faith will grow to the assurance that what I ask for in that Name cannot be refused. The Name and the power of asking go together. When the Name of Jesus has become the power that rules my life, its power in prayer with God will be seen too. Everything depends on my own relationship to the Name. The power it has on my life is the power it will have in my prayers. When it is everything to me, it will obtain everything for me. If I let it have all I have, it will let me have all it has.”
Does His name have power in your everyday life or is it just the way you close your prayer? Are you living your life consciously representing and bearing His name faithfully? When you carry His name faithfully to the world around you, your use of that name carries more weight in Heaven.

Greetings, What a wonderful devotional, and a wonderful way to start the day. Thanks for the reminder about prayer. Andrew Murray has been a spiritual father to me, and the quote you sent was just what I needed to hear. Thank you. I look forward to more devotionals from you.
Many Blessings,

Taken from J.C. Ryle commentary on John 14: 13.
Christ was very far from handing His disciples a ‘blank check’ (as some have expressed it), leaving them to fill it in and assuring them that God would honor it because it bore His Son’s signature. Equally so is it a carnal delusion to suppose that a Christian has only to work himself up to an expectation to suppose that God will hear his prayer, in order to obtain what he asks for. To apply to God for any thing in the name of Christ, the petition must be in keeping with what Christ is. We can only rightly ask God for that which will magnify His Son. To ask in the name of Christ is, therefore, to set aside our own will, and bow to the perfect will of God. If only we realized this more, what a check it would be on our ofttimes rash and illconsidered requests! How many of our prayers would never be offered did we but pause to inquire, Can I present this in that Name which is above every name?
Not what I wish, but what I want,
O let Thy grace supply;
The good unasked, in mercy grant,
The ill, though asked, deny.

Hey Mike,
Thanks again for your practical wisdom concerning praying and doing
in His name.
As you mentioned, most Christain’s add that to the end of the prayers
without realizing the power in that Name. All of heaven, is waiting to
fulfill it if your heart intentions and actions are congruent with the
good gifts that can only come from above.
and with that… Jesus is LORD!
Cheers!

Michael - Thanks for yet another wonderful wake up call! I needed to be reminded not to take Him for granted. I certainly don’t want to be guilty of just “dropping” His precious name!

Well, I applied to Seed America in response to Michael Pink’s email a couple of weeks ago about their new opportunities. I really believe in Jesus’ name that if He wants me there, no one can keep that from happening. If He doesn’t want me there, then there’s nothing no one can do to make it happen.
Bottom line - It has to be in His will, for He has the power to say yes or no. Yes means that the request is His will for us. A no means that now’s not the time or He has something even better. I trust in His goodness and grace - He did not withhold Jesus Christ (His absolute best) for my eternal destiny and I have no reason to believe that He will withhold His best from us here on earth provided we allow Him to live His holiness through us and that we ask in the right motive.
Time will tell.

So, does Jesus’ Name have undivided supremacy in my heart and life? Not sure — yes, I keep God’s counsels and law always in front of me. Yes, his gospel and his kingdom are the highest priorities in my life. Yes, I love him. But I also feel angry because of tragic events — that “dynamic” is in my life. So do I qualify? Has Jesus Name “become the power that rules my life” and “the power it will (should) have in my prayers”? I honestly don’t know, and dearly wish I did.

Joe,
Just a thought for you. I believe God’s highest purpose for us is relationship with Himself which will result in us being like Jesus (2 Cor 3:18, Romans 8:29). Michael’s teaching is great stuff; at the same time, it’s the practical outworking of it, applying it in our lives and in context of God’s highest purpose, that brings it about its results. There are things God is working out of all of us to bring about His highest purpose. Because these things are working out, e.g., anger, does not disqualify us, but rather, it shows that we are qualified (our qualification is really based on what Jesus did for us - Colossians 1:12) because God is surfacing these things so we can deal with them, to bring us more into His purpose in our lives.
More than God bless you brother, I will and I know others are praying for you, and it does make a difference.

Wow. Thank you for some very strong thoughts on praying in His name. I will take this very much to heart.

It is so amazing that the Lord has not only enabled us to operate in this name, but has an expectation that we will work every day to enlarge the sphere of our influence through the use of his name. This is a great article and I pray it helps everyone who reads it to recognise today that the Lord and all of heavens resources are always as close as the mention of his name. Great job!

Thank You for this message. I have felt for some time now that when we pray and end our prayer it is without power! I hear prayers being ended as “In His name,” “In your name we pray.” As I hear prayers like this I felt the Lord was saying they are leaving out “In the Name of Jesus or In the name of Jesus Christ I pray.” More and more it’s like they are dropping the very name that has the power. May we put “JESUS” back in our prayers and know that we know our prayers are heard.
Even if we don’t see it in our lifetime that just like Abraham, Isaac and Jacob we know that God will move and bring it about. We have to believe even when we can’t see anything happening with our natural eyes but this is the time we must look with our “spiritual eyes” and know God Can and Will Do!!!!
May the Lord bless, keep and guide you and your ministry now and alway!!!

This is an excellent word, a word of correction and readjustment for those who are not doing it, but also a word of confirmation and affirmation for those who have been applying.
Thank you

Good Evening,
What a blessed privilege God’s child has got - to use His Father’s highest authority - “a seal of His Name”. “More love - more power” - if a dearly beloved of the Lord is focused with all his/her strenght on The Authority Giver, then he always will be successfull in getting the right answers for his/ her prayers. Good Father always gives good things to His son / daughter. The more we grow in “agape” love walking, the less unsuccessfull we become. We are Hiis branches, His life is in our veins, we are one with Him - we have got the mind of Christ - how can we depart from His perfect will and not receive what we ask for…

Blessed IS he who comes in the name of the Lord! The name of someone represents who he IS…and his nature. We have to come in the nature of the the Lord Jesus. His divine nature is love. We have to become partakers of His divine nature of love, to come in His name. His Word that is engrafted into our soul ever so slowly covers over our human nature with His divine nature. As we have His nature, we are in the image and likeness of the Son of God…Jesus. Would the Father deny His own Son anything? If He looks into our hearts and sees the fullness of the life of Jesus within, He won’t deny us anything either in the days to come. As we have His nature, we’ll have the mind of Christ influencing how we pray, and what we ask for. This will take discipline on our part to press into the fullness of His life which is available. What a glorious day we are walking into as “sons of God.” Thanks for all your all your posts about sons in the marketplace, Michael! Those who have ears to hear what the Spirit is saying through them are truly be being blessed.

Thank God for the power of His Son reigning in our lives. That every knee will bow at His name. In His presence is where I long to be and because we are His delight, Praise the Lord His power is working in us, through us, and manifested in the world in which we are chosen to be a light. Blessings to everyone.

Wow! You put that so succinctly. I have felt for some time that there is more than just praying “in Jesus’ name” but had not thought of the connection between living the power of the Name and praying the power of the Name. Your posts seldom fail to speak to me. Thank you.

Mr. Pink,
This post has more meaning in it for me than all your others.
I’m so glad to have read this.
I’m not a salesperson so to speak but understand that my actions etc. are taken as good or bad sales whether for work or with my relationship with Jesus.
Thank Ya and God Bless Ya,

This makes so much sense. I have often felt the answer when I finished praying and at other times I didn’t feel the answer. I believe it all has to do with what you have said in this article. Thank you for helping clear that up for me.

what I say now may be over the top for some but remember nothing is impossible for God.
I just met a 20 year old girl who was ministering here for a month. She was healed from a bed ridding disorder. She actually left her mortal body -dead I mean and was give second life.God gave her the previlage to enter heaven and hell. She a book written called burning hell and eternal heaven.
From my conversation with her she has been to heaven more than a 1000 times in the last 2 years.
when asked about the burdens carried by man. This is what she said what the Lord said.
Many carry demons and other burdens but my Lord says my children KNOW how to get it OFF them!
I have given them My NAME !!! Are you willing!
just to let you know the impact of the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth to those who Believe on His Name!
(hope I haven’t stirred up a hornet’s nest with this post.Forgive me if I have)
I just had to let you guys know that we do have Big God!!
