Here’s Who You Should Vote for - for President

January 25th, 2008 | Michael Q. Pink

I believe this is the most significant presidential election in my lifetime. There is so much at stake and I believe a lot of people sense that. We all see through a glass darkly and hopefully are doing our best to get the mind of Christ on this important vote coming up not only in the State primaries, but ultimately the November election.

I am going to help you make the right decision. Are you ready? Vote for… Well, go to this website and answer 11 questions on key issues. As you answer each question, the candidate who most matches your view will rise a little higher on the screen. It’s kinda fun to watch and quite interesting. Then, vote for the person who most resembles your values and viewpoints. Be sure to hit the Matrix view when you’re done.

The reason I am asking you to do this is because I believe the person you plan to vote for and the positions you hold may not match up. And worse yet, you may not know it. This is a real eye opener! It only takes a few minutes to answer the questions and the result is immediate. Please post on the blog your result. I am interested to know if anyone was planning on voting for one candidate but discovered that a different candidate most represented your views. And if so, who was it?

Next week we will continue our discussion on knowing God’s will for your life.

P.S. We’ve been discussing this election quite a bit each week on the Friday Wrapup Podcast from ChristianBusinessDaily.com. Click here to check out recent episodes (a new one will be posted today). No iPod required.

My quiz came out for Fred Thompson - I knew that!

  2. Diane c-br Says:

Thank you for the site address. It was helpful but found myself not sure how to answer many other than more conservative when in doubt. I also noticed the abortion/pro life question was not included which is very important in my mind and shows a candidates true allignment with values of Jesus.
Maybe you would not mind covering the issues or you may be it is not within the realm of this site. If you know a good conservative site that does cover the issues please post it.

  3. Kristine c-us Says:

The results for my quiz: Ron Paul. Go Ron Paul!

  4. Larry Morris c-us Says:

Mitt Romney and Mike Hukabee both came is strong. I took the quiz twice and each won based on slightly different responses. I looked at the differences based on their answers and found either acceptable. I was really surprised at how low Ron Paul ranked in my vote. I was even a little disturbed with a few of his answers. All of my candidates were Republican, several have already dropped out. Hillary and I only agreed on portions of the war.

I’m a “free Market” person and don’t like big Govt. But, we live in a fallen world, and unfortunately, we need need some level of protection from ourselves. Most people and businesses don’t think more then 1-2 years into the future (If that), let alone into the next 2 or 3 generations.

Left to it’s own devices, I really don’t believe that the free market will solve many of the issues in our country like the war, immigration, health care and global warming. There is too much greed.

I do believe that it will take care of the economy and that Govt. needs to become more accountable with the dollars they have..

In a fallen world, God Himself gave Israel a King since they wouldn’t just follow Him. The King was to seek God’s wisdom and rule benevolently. The people were to seek God and obey the King. When necessary, God stepped in and straightened things out. Israel also had a problem thinking very far into the future…

    Hey Mike,

Based on my answers - Ron Paul #1, Rudy Guliani #2, John McCain # 3

Very interesting, since I only took the quiz once!

    Cheers!

  6. Dennis Preston c-us Says:

    1. Mike Huckabee
    2. Mitt Romney
    3. Rudy Guiliani

As far as a change for me, Rudy being #3 is a change, I had discounted him for his stand on abortion. Had there been a question on abortion he likely would have not been in my top 3. Huckabee had been my #1 and I’d been warming up to Romney. Despite his flip-flopping, purely as a businessman and leader who has gotten stuff done, he’d have been my top one. I’d also read where some believe where God will overtake the Mormon movement and make them true Christians, much the same (my opinion) as with the Worldwide Church of God.

A friend of mine who is a pastor and I were talking about politics a few years ago and he said that he liked the Republicans because of their stand for life but liked the Democrats for their care for the individual who needed help. I also heard a well-known Christian leader say recently about the abortion issue that Republicans care about the issue of life on the front end but historically they had been seen as not caring about it as much as maybe they should after the baby had been born. This person also said that God is not a capitalist, which I agree with. I do believe in a free market system. At the same time, there are businesses which are run by greedy men and women which at times do exploit others. For instance, there’s a well-known rental company that tends locate near poorer areas under the premise of allowing those folks access to things they otherwise could not afford. They allow them to rent to own, basically forever, and make money in that way, when these folks cannot pay for these things outright. This keeps these folks in poverty, though they are making the choice. However, if the opportunity were not there, they would not be able to enter into this. In this regard, for my vote Huckabee is not beholden to the normal Republican establishment. I know he’s not perfect, but for me I think he’s probably the most Christian candidate we’ve seen in a long time.

Blessings, and thanks Michael for allowing this forum!

Hi, First. I so much appreciate your e-mails and your website. They are educational to me and inspiring. Now, I did the “Candidate Match Game” twice. The first time I was honest and accurate. The second time my answers were the opposite of what I believe. However, both results all candidates were republican. Question. Should believers vote republican? Why?. Thank You.

  8. Eddy c-us Says:

I LIKE MIKE!!!! Mike Huckabee all the way. “A Christian Socialist” what a disgusting article. I attended the Georgia Right to Life Rally in Atlanta on Tues Jan 22nd and heard Mike Huckabee talk about the Sanctity of Life.
He said he had attended every Right to Life Rally in Arkansas. He is a man of family, faith and values who believes in the one true God and prays in the name of Jesus Christ.

  9. Maidena c-us Says:

I also was disturbed that the abortion issue was not addressed. This is the main issue as far as I’m concerned. How can our nation ever recover if we continue in the sin of bloodguiltiness. So much innocent blood being shed!

  10. Lorisa c-us Says:

I’m VERY disturbed that the abortion issue was left out. That’s a make or break issue for my vote. I was surprised at my results. I got the Romney, Huckabee, Hunter answer. I’m a little embarrassed to say, I have no idea who Hunter is and I thought I was keeping up pretty good! I had originally thought Huckabee was my candidate. Now I need to figure out why he came in 2nd according to my answers. Very interesting!

  11. Michael Pink c-us Says:

From what I understand, Ron Paul, Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney and Duncan Hunter are prolife. The survey I sent you to did not include abortion as an issue, so you will need to know their position separately.

  12. Tara c-us Says:

Here is another possible source for seeing where the candidates stand…

  13. Jon Straumfjord c-us Says:

    Mike:

I found the exercise interesting, but also disturbing at the same time.

It was certainly interesting to examine the various positions on each category offered, but for several that could have included multiple answers to questions, only a single one was offered.

I certainly agree that the abortion issue should have been a part of the questionnaire, and I am a little disturbed that there were virtually no questions about the role of religion in government and trustworthiness. Certainly there are candidates listed that are very questionable in their personal core beliefs, and they may have a strong tendency to at least slightly misrepresent those beliefs for the purpose of winning an election.

In my particular questionnaire, John McCain was first, Mitt Romney second, and Rudy Guliani third. Obviously, my personal preference would actually be Mike Huckabee since I find him the most trustworthy and spiritually in more agreement with my own views than any of the others, but like I said, trustworthiness, religion, and abortion weren’t options. Certainly USA Today is a secular periodical, but it would have been nice to have those options available.

The exercise was interesting, not only as an opportunity to examine the stances of the individual candidates, but also as a revelation of how secular culture views political decisions.

  14. Geri c-us Says:

My vote came in for the person I first thought would be the right person
    lst, Huckabee , 2nd, Romney…3rd , McCain

All three have my views on the various subjects.

I will vote Republican all the way. I’m not saying I would always vote
the party..usually it’s the man. This election is so very important that
we keep the conservative views alive. I see no Democrate candidate that I believe is thinking about the good of the country. just more government
    control.

  15. David G. Johnson c-us Says:

Given the fact that there are several candidates with strong Pro-Life views this year, we should all be looking a lot harder at some other aspects of this year’s race.

I just posted this article on Evangelical Christian voting that explores some of this further. I encourage you to check it out, but be prepared for some of your thinking to be challenged.

  16. Drew Hendry c-us Says:

It was interesting to see the pictures of the candidates! Huckabee looks aloof, McCain looks constipated, Romney looks good. By the way, these were my 1-2-3 choices.

I don’t mean to get down on Democrats but the reports on Obama are very disturbing. I can’t trust Hillary either. I thought we learned our lesson with Bill!

Anyway, I have enjoyed watching Huckabee handle himself in the media. He handled “zingers” well enough to disarm the interviewer and provide relevant insight into what he believes. This is the first “test” that I have taken but felt like Huckabee or McCain would be someone that would lead the country well.

  17. Diane c-br Says:

I ended up with Romney, Huckabee and OOps….Guliani. He is too liberal but I must have pulled him up on some issues. I don’t want government control on health, that would be a disaster. I actually am in Brazil most of the time and think I saw something about being able to vote online. Does anyone know much about that?

  20. Karen c-us Says:

I took the USA Today Quiz and my result was Romney. I hadn’t made up my mind yet.

  21. Larry Morris c-us Says:

Here’s another interesting site taht allows you to take a poll and then tells you how your responses line up with several of teh candidates. Ron Paul is excluded, but the others are there. Interesting…

  22. thefullenchilada.com c-us Says:

Ron Paul supporters (and even you Romney or McCain people) please VOTE for MIKE HUCKABEE if you want to abolish the IRS and Income Taxes, balance the budget, and cut spending! Mike Huckabee is the most principled candidate and one thing he has promised is to put the out of business sign on the door of the IRS!

  23. Rock Mumbles c-us Says:

    Hello all,

    This was quite interesting.

For me the saddest thing reading from the comments is that abortion is such an important issue for many people. Come on people, abortion happens period, legal or illegal, also I’m not an abortion proponent, I’ve seen the resulting death in the “should-have-been mothers”.

God showed Israel that legislated morality doesn’t work, so we think we can do better than God, that legislating morality is going to work now? The only thing that will change peoples hearts is to change people’s hearts. If I’m OK with robbing, stealing, murder, rape, etc. and I do those things aren’t they already against the law? So they shouldn’t exist right?

Getting involved in people’s lives will change the way people think, and a 30 second prayer is not what I’m talking about, I’m talking about living like Jesus did, meeting with people, eating with people, showing people hope, letting people find faith.

Christianity should be about common unity, shared wealth, and interdependence, that is what Jesus taught, correct? So if Huckabee or whoever abolishes the IRS, income taxes, etc. then we as The Church will take over all of the needs of our nation, our states, our counties, and our cities, our towns, our villages, and our neighborhoods that will not be met by doing away with income taxes.

As if you can’t tell I’m a die hard Christian Demo-publican, Jesus was for the people why not have a political agenda for “all of the people” not just the wealthy?

BTW, my poll result was Hillary, imagine that!

  24. Lorisa c-us Says:

I’ve sat here for 10 minutes absolutely speechless. It isn’t just a matter of morality - it’s MURDER. Pure and simple. Sugar coat it however you want to. As a Christian - the abortion issue will always be at the top of my list.

  25. Robert S c-us Says:

Thompson was my first choice and the survey agreed.
I was very surprised to find that McCain more closely matched my views than did Huckabee (my personal second choice).
In addition to the social issues mentioned here, I am also interested in the views of both the Democratic and Republican candidates are concerning the state of Israel and the U.S. relationship with Israel.
Having taken his Senate oath of office on the Koran rather than on the Bible, I believe we can determine Obama’s views. What about the views of the other candidates? Is there a related website?

  26. "The Geek" c-us Says:

    Robert,

Thanks for your comments. In terms of finding out the views of other candidates, we posted a follow-up to the blog entry that you read which included a handful of other sites that would provide more insight into the the candidates views.

    Here’s that post.

Hope this helps. Thank you for participating in the discussion.

  27. Lorisa c-us Says:

    Robert S.

Let me start by saying, I in NO WAY support Obama - however - mis-information is mis-information.. Obama was not sworn in on the Koran - it was Minnesota congressman Keith Ellison who chose the Koran.

  28. Robert S c-us Says:

    Lorisa,
Thanks for correcting me. I did not intend to spread a false rumor and I apologize for doing so.

  29. Lorisa c-us Says:

No problem! I was forwarding that, too, until I decided to do my own research!
