Two Beers Please…

January 31st, 2008 | Michael Q. Pink

2 Beers“Two beers please.”

“But sir,” the stewardess warned, “the flight is only 30 minutes.”

As he settled into the window seat by my wife, Casey replied, “I could down a six pack.”

Casey was clean cut, tattooed with matching earrings and an attitude to match! It was an early morning flight and I had planned to have some quiet time reading my Bible and didn’t want any interruptions. The Lord had other plans. Before long Casey and my wife were in deep conversation and she was trying to involve me. Judging by how quickly he was downing his favorite brew and by his seemingly carefree attitude, I didn’t perceive him as a ready candidate for to receive Christ in the 20 minutes remaining in our flight.

As much as I wanted to leave the chit chat to them so I could continue with some much needed time in the Word, the Holy Spirit kept stirring in me to participate in what He was doing. “But Lord,” I argued, “there are only twenty minutes before landing… that’s not enough time to do any good.”

As I opened the Scriptures, my eyes fell upon this passage in Proverbs 24:

“Deliver those that are drawn toward death, hold back those that are stumbling to the slaughter; If you say, Behold, we knew it not; does not He that weighs the heart consider it? And He that keeps your soul, does not He know it? And shall not He render to every man according to his works?”

I may be slow, but I’m not stupid! I immediately turned to Casey and told him how the Lord had been dealing with me to speak to him and how reluctant I was until He directed me to that passage. When I read it to him, he was visibly shaken.

    WOW Mike,

Now that is what I call a bonified “Rhema” Word from the Holy Spirit!

I never saw that one before (Proverbs 24:11-24) - it is very powerful
and as you said - you got the guys attention IMMEDIATELY (as well as your own - for being OBEDIENT!)

    Cheers!

I’m seeking to be trained in Christian copywriting. Are there any programs that someone recommends? I’m aware of the program through www.thewriterslife.com.

  3. Keisha c-us Says:

    Bless You!
This post was truly a rhema word in my life. As I was reading the post, I was being informed of a family member who over the past four years has been consistenly drawn to the ways of the word. If there ever was a doubt on how I’m called to respond to this trying situation, this post reminded me.

    Blessings!

    Hey Keisha,

I’m a direct response copy-writer myself, and although I’ve not taken the AWAI course - it is one that is highly regarded by some of my peers and is indeed - impeccable.

It would be a good place to start learning, developing and implementing your yet-to-be Holy Spirit led copywriting skills.

    Cheers!

Of course… I find myself wondering why today’s post would spark a discussion on copywriting…

    :D

    Hey Geek

Mmm - in response to your inquiry - possibly for 2 reasons.

I was being helpful to Keisha - based on her legitimate request earlier.

and secondly - the LORD uses the written word to convey powerful insight for making sound decisions, including Michaels own Spirit-led copywriting talent in creating this amazing S.A.W. Blog. I trust this response answered your query.

    Cheers!

  11. Keisha c-us Says:

    Geek,
I inquired about copywriting on this blog b/c S.A.W. is a christian blog that deals with selling.
Copywriting is essentially selling with words.
When you read the full post of “Two Beers Please…”, it deals with the persuasion of the Holy Spirit and how to be an effective communicator and exercise godly influence in all areas of business and life by following the pattern of the Holy Spirit.

    Blessings!

 I think we need to invent an emoticon for “tongue in cheek.” I was kidding around with my question.

Thanks, Keisha and Geary, for the great answers, though! And… don’t let me interrupt!

    Cheers and Blessings!

    Hey Geek,

Soooo, you were just pulling our chains?

like, “aw shucks u were just kidding?”

So when we will we know when your serious… for future reference that is?

Oh, I almost forget - how did you get the “Geek” moniker?

    Chow “-)

  15. "The Geek" c-us Says:

    Geary,

    :P Yup… I was teasin’. Sorry that wasn’t more obvious…

For future reference… hmmmmmm, that’s a good question. You never know with a “geek.” We’ve been known to pull people’s chains without them knowing it…

The “Geek” moniker came about because of the day that I sent out a message on Michael’s behalf and didn’t really notice that the price of the product we told folks about was a little “buried.”

You can see the whole story here.

Michael was nice enough to refer to me as the “Geek” in order to protect the guilty. Then we decided that the “Geek” could be useful (to people other than Michael), so we created some stuff like the “How to Use This Blog” page and some training videos from the “Geek” and stuff like that…

We’ve had some fun with it… Thanks for asking!

    Ciao!

    WOW!
    WOW!
I have just recently realized that what I call DiDs (Damsels in Distress) are drawn too me..and have been trying to run from them, to no avail.
Then while wrestling with the Lord the other morning He revealed to me that he wanted me to drag as many as I could out of the lifestyle that they are living. But my weakness said I cannot and am scared of falling into the same sinfull lifestyle again. This story and scripture hit tooo close to home. Thank you Michael.
