Grow Up and Grow Rich
April 15th, 2008 | Michael Q. Pink
Yes, I did select this title to get folks to read the article. This blog is longer but important. It will take you all of 3 - 4 minutes to read it but it’s worth it. Here goes…
“For it is written, As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.” (Romans 14:11)
The other night I turned on the television and to my shock and amazement witnessed something I thought I would never see. It was “results” night for American Idol and there were all the contestants singing “Shout to the Lord”, originally a Hillsongs worship song. Tears welled up in me as I heard them sing so powerfully this song that opens with “My Jesus, My Savior…” Now I read that the night before they substituted the name of Jesus with the word, “Shepherd” but apparently folks got upset at that and they had them do it over again on Thursday night. No matter. Regardless of their beliefs, the contestants glorified God with their song and with their talents and millions were touched!
Now as some of you know, we got some questions about my blog from last week where I told about Pastor Sunday Adelaja from Ukraine who has a Club 1000 raising up millionaires in a relatively poor country. (Over 200 new millionaires in the first year) As usual, I was misunderstood by some who should know my intent better. It seems every time I bring up the subject of wealth and influence there are those who react quite negatively, grouping me with those who preach some form of a prosperity gospel of personal consumption and materialism.
The reason I will keep posting what I post is not so you can acquire untold wealth and live a lavish lifestyle. Your lifestyle is not my concern! I am concerned about the culture and the pitiful influence that we as Christians have on it. Wealth is not about getting people to envy you so you can share the gospel, although that may happen. Wealth is not about being a fat cat. The purpose of wealth is to establish the covenant. Even with Christ in us, working through us, in the last 50 years we as Christians have established very little. Sure we have established churches but most of them have taken the vow of silence on culturally relevant things like government and politics, having chosen to come under the sovereignty of the state with their 501(c)(3) status. (There is a place for non-profits, but the church isn’t the place!) I will rant on that another time!
Christians are so marginalized today and we deserve it. We are afraid to make money but quite willing to beg for it! What is wrong with this picture!?!?! We shun wealth leaving the levers of influence that money buys, in the hands of the wicked. Shame on us! I for one will not apologize for wealth because I want to use it to in some meaningful way to establish the covenant and shape the culture, even though my brothers and sisters in Christ may naïvely accuse me of being caught up in a prosperity, get rich, selfish gospel.
Did you know that General Electric wants to spin off NBC? Wouldn’t it be something if Christians with a profoundly Biblical worldview could and would buy it?! But no, having money is evil according to too many Christians. Grow up! Be strong in Christ! Give your talents over to God. He just might raise you up to be the next owner of CNN. And no, I don’t mean to suggest that if Christians owned CNN or NBC, etc that it would be turned into a religious broadcasting network. We don’t need anymore of those. What we need is Christians with a brain and filled with the Spirit, walking in wisdom! That would be dangerous!
Why do you think Fox ran that “Shout to the Lord” song the first night without the name of Jesus? Do you think they forgot the words? Do you think they were trying to improve upon the song? YOU KNOW THE ANSWER and so do I. There is incredible power in the media and that’s just one reason I want to see Christians with wealth so they can control those levers for good! Wouldn’t it be great if the evening news was not stacked in favor of political candidates who do not share our values? Wouldn’t it be something if evil was exposed for what it was and good was celebrated? I could go on and on!
But too many of us, decry the evils of wealth and tell us instead to simply be more Christlike. As if being wealthy and Christlike were mutually exclusive! And by the way, if Christlikeness is really the goal, do you think He is sitting on a throne made of popsicle sticks? Do you think the gold on the streets is just gold colored paint? Get real! Want to be like Christ? Then be like Him in every way you can. Fully confident. Fully in union with the Father. Walking in love. Helping others. Never in lack.
I am in Greensboro tonight (April 15th) speaking at Evangel Fellowship in Greensboro, NC with Pastor Otis Lockett and this message is burning in me. Care to join me? Pastor Lockett is doing a phenomenal work in that city and raising up business leaders to influence the culture. Join us if you can. See you there!

AMEN, Michael!! Awesome encouragement! I don’t get why people can’t understand the want for wealth to further the Kingdom, either. Whether we like it or not, money is what makes this country go ’round. It’s how you use it that counts!
April 15th, 2008 at 9:16 am
AMEN!!!!!to this!! We as Children of the most High God needs to be financially fit to change the world not to enrich ourselves but to honour God and let His Kingdom reigns now on earth as well, for He let us inherit the earth and we do not reign! Then we ask why is the world leaders wealthy unbelievers and why are they so blessed? Not because they serve the fallen angel but because we did not take up our inheritance!! For all the riches of the world belong to God.
I am trusting my Father now to bless me so abundantly not to boast but to give glory and honour to His name for blessing me, so I can bless others.
Thanks so much for this encouragement! Blessings

Michael, The negative comments you receive just shows there are still a lot of Christians that do not understand there is nothing wrong with being rich.
The poor can not help the poor financially. The poor can not fund missionaries, schools, hospitals or feed the orphaned children.
That is one of the reasons I wrote the book “Its’s Ok To Be Rich But Seek Ye First The Kingdom Of God.”
As we discussed wouldn’t it be great to have a billion dollar fund dedicated to nothing but Christian work in the world?
God bless and keep up the good work.
April 15th, 2008 at 9:20 am
Micheal, I agree with you a million times on this topic!!! I will intercede for you as you bring this message to the business people tonight! A clear understanding between selfish indulgence and changing our communities to a place where Christ reigns is truly needed in this hour!
The shift is starting to happen, God is moving and for those with eyes and ears, discerning what the Holy Spirit is doing now in the earth, let us know the times and move in it. I am so excited to see society change because Believers are hearing their call from God and manifesting their blue print destinies.
Every business man that grow financialy not only have the capability to be a good steward but will be in the best situation to impart knowlege and making disciples of the nations that will bring their testimonies to aclaim that Jesus is the King of King’s!
I am truly looking forward to the call that you so kindly host for us with Pastor Sunday Adelaja.
We need more Chirstian Business Men and Women that will provide employment and do business based on Biblical Principles and helping others to fulfill their call and destiny.
When the righteous reign in the land, the people rejoice but with the unrighteous they grown.
May God bless you

Way to go Michael. How do people think churches survive? How are the pastors paid, light bill, water, materials, music….etc. if not for money. God blesses us with riches (including money) so we can bless others. For those of us who truly understand the value of money it can certainly be used to futher God’s kingdom. When a missionary comes to talk about the needs on the field in a far away country - how do people think they can do what they do - because those who have money can support those who are willing to go and spread the gospel. It’s what we do with our money not how much we have that God sees. The more money we have the more choices we have to help others. Thank you for your comments.
April 15th, 2008 at 9:21 am
Cheers to you on this one Michael for standing firm and speaking truth! If I did not make the money that I make I would not be able to give above and beyond my tithe…support our missionary friends in India and Argentina. Support our new friend in Africa and the many other causes that my wife and I give to. My prayer is that as God blesses me may I be a blessing to others.
Thank you for not “shrinking” back on this one. Many Christians need to get their head out of the sand.
April 15th, 2008 at 9:21 am
Warren amen to this! Poor people cant’ help the poor just as the blind can’t lead the blind!! Will make a plan to find your book and read it sounds very encouraging
God bless
April 15th, 2008 at 9:22 am
I agree 100%. Satan is a liar and the father of lies and he has lied to Christians telling them they have to be poor and pitiful. Jesus told Peter where to go to get the money to pay the taxes. He can tell us where to go to get the money we need to live, and if it is millions then Praise God for His blessings.
April 15th, 2008 at 9:22 am
Michael, blessings to you man!
I don’t have anyone particularly in mind, but I think those who rant against wealth often are either envious of those who do (envy is sin), are actually greedy (greed is sin, idolatry). There’s also pride, judgementalism, hypocrisy, pharisaism We who have that are NOT grown up. I count myself at times in that camp, and I fight against it.
I’m not trying to throw anyone under the bus here, but I do want to call a spade a spade. I for one repent of that wrong mindset and I turn from it.
Once when I was in college I was in the grocery store, getting groceries for the week. I was going to skimp because money was tight, being stingy. The Lord rebuked me and said to me, you get what you need and basically, stop that. Sometimes I think we can be so proud of our poverty-just the same as we can be proud in our wealth. They’re both sin! And our focus is wrong in both cases, it’s not on the Lord, it’s putting our trust in wealth in BOTH cases! Not just the case of being wealthy - but also of being in poverty - we won’t give it away or spend it on what is necessary.
Now, I’m not picking on those that are poor. There are those who are legitimately in that place because of oppression and we do need to help them at some level. As James says, “has not God chosen the poor of the earth to be rich in faith, and to inherit the kingdom?” Once they have the kingdom, they will not be poor. Not that they’ll be fabulously wealthy, but they will have what they need.
There’s SO many verses that talk about stewardship. To whom much is given (how about ALL Americans, above AND below the poverty line, compared to other countries?) MUCH is required. If you are faithful in little, you will be faithful in much. If you cannot handle worldly wealth correctly (meaning you should make the EFFORT to do so - it will NOT just happen) who will trust you with heavenly riches?
I’m writing this as much for me as anyone else to continually renew my mind. I want the mind of Christ.
Wealth is NOT evil. It is what one does with it that is evil. And while that overtly can be detected, e.g., if one were to blatantly buy illicit drugs, many times it’s a matter of the person’s heart before God, and who am I to judge my brother’s heart? Only God knows that.
Blessings and keep going!
Dennis

Preach it brother!!! You are RIGHT ON!!! What could Christians do to turn our Country around if what you said could become a reality? WOW!! We as Christians need to open the doors of our churches & accept these principles & be allowed to teach everyone how to “TAKE BACK THE GATES”. There would be no more begging for money for anything in the church or from the people because of lack.
We must remember that we belong to the family of the KING OF KINGS….therefore, we need to live like princes & princesses!!
To think otherwise is an insult to our Heavenly Father!!
Keep preaching it LOUD & LONG!!
April 15th, 2008 at 9:29 am
One further thing….at points those who rant against others making money often sound socialistic, as if getting more for something from a customer than you paid for it is wrong. That’s value, a customer willing to pay more for something than what it cost you to make it.
However, that line of thinking fights against excellence in doing work, in being able to support one’s family, which Scripture clearly teaches is what we should do, else we are WORSE than unbelievers, and generally is an excuse for not growing up, learning, and doing well.
True, some will point to poor believers in Third World countries. However, to say that is the norm, when those folks are in that place because of oppression, physicaly, demonic, social, or otherwise, is a form of fatalism, is to relegate where they are as that being God’s will for their life, and is to deny the goodness of God. Plain wrong! We would not just leave them where they are, we try to help them. Otherwise, why go and preach the gospel to them?
I’m not saying there are not excesses…but there are excesses to materialism, and there are excesses to aeseticism (spelling?)…both (not just one) are wrong! Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater!
Blessings,
Dennis

-Thank you M. for your boldness to speak the truth. You are not alone, there are many of us who work diligently from our knees to help Followers become just that…
-Most do not live like royalty, as joint-heirs, because they don’t spend enough time with Father God (the only place to fully comprehend one’s new identity is in His presence).
-It is times that the lies of the poverty spirit are exposed and hearts are set, once again, at the feet of Jesus.
-If you are one of us, who are willing to give ALL at His feet, then get ready, get ready, get ready for access to your inheritance, NOW! And use it to influence culture through the marketplace!!
April 15th, 2008 at 9:33 am
I agree with you! Are you ever in Massachusetts? How about New England?
April 15th, 2008 at 9:37 am
AMEN!!!! We need this message….we, as Christians, need to RISE UP and SPEAK! There is POWER in the name of JESUS and it was given to us to use for such a time as this…..STAND UP and SPEAK the NAME…THE name….HIS name! No enemy can stand against it.
April 15th, 2008 at 9:44 am
My husband and I own and operate a business in our community and have felt for some time our business is to become an outreach for the gospel. We are in the building supply business and though things do not look good right now in the natural, we are using this down time to expand and get ready for what is coming! God has blessed us and expanded our territory so we can be a blessing. I have subscribed to your blog for a few months now and it has been both an encouragment and a blessing. Since you live in Florida also, would love to know when you may be in our area. (Central FLorida - Marion Co.) Loved your comments above and totally agree. God is going to transfer the wealth of the wicked into the hands of those who will use it for HIS GLORY!
April 15th, 2008 at 9:45 am
This is one of the best messages I have read/heard in a very long time! It sort of affirms my attitude which is “I hate organized religion”, even a pervese form of Christianity, but I LOVE JESUS AND HIS MESSAGE! I believe in the mandate “Those that have a FORM OF GODLINESS, YET DENY (DON’T ALLOW) THE POWER (TO MANIFEST IN REAL LIFE) FROM SUCH TURN AWAY!!”
April 15th, 2008 at 9:48 am
Bravo! Well said!! Wealthly, Wise, and Walking w/God! It’s unfortunate that so many loose site of the Savior when blessed with much of this world’s goods. If you have wealth you MUST have Wisdom in order to Walk in His Will. I personally think this is the rub with many, they forget that Wisdom and Wealth go hand in hand. You want to unlock the room of Wisdom?? Try the keys of Prayer and Obedience.
April 15th, 2008 at 9:53 am
I agree with you totally! And it is refreshing to see what other believers’ responses are. You wonder at times where the Body is at and who feels passionate about Jesus and advancing the Kingdom! The media makes believers look lethargic and non-existent, but I know we are here-we are ready-we are gaining the courage and understanding to make a difference in the marketplace-in our communities-in our families-in our schools! RISE UP CHURCH- RISE UP CHILDREN OF THE MOST HIGH AND CLAIM YOUR INHERITANCE!!! Keep preaching the TRUTH!
April 15th, 2008 at 10:00 am
Mr. Pink, AMEN AND AMEN!!!! I wish every “Prosperity Preacher/Teacher” would grasp your letter and take it to heart. How can we as the church stand before God at the end of this life and justify our lack because of “wanting to keep up with the Jones”. Having nice and dependable automobiles or a nice home and living comfortably or even living in abundance under God’s blessing is a far cry from the perverted wealth teaching that has flooded the church and markets in recent years. God’s blessings are for us, for us to bless others and further the Gospel not for us to have more than our neighbor or as an excuse to go futher in debt with more payments and to take us futher from our calling in Christ. On the other side of the coin, living in lack because we think this makes us
“more spiritual or closer to God” doesn’t quite line up with scripture either.
We need a balance. We need to keep in mind the purpose of our calling, yes each of us has a calling. We cannot possibly fulfill this calling without balance. We need to lose the I need more to be fulfilled mentallity and lose the poverty mentallity. We need a God mentallity!!!!!
God Bless

Michael,
Praise God you are sending this message!! I am with you and my family will continue to stand with you and this message. Jesus is constantly looking for his servants who will willing submit and grow up in His principles of life. It takes time with Him and disciple in our daily walk!
I have been a fundraiser for Christian organizations and am quite tired of the continual attitude of poverty that exists. They do not want to act responsibly (consistently doing what is best) but want those who do to give to them…WHAT A DECEPTION!! And then there are those who have money but spend it unwisely and lead many down the road of self-indulgence.
My family and I are learning much in this area. So, I’m not judging, just learning too!
God wants us, as you said, to grow up and act like sons. We are to do it quietly and with great wisdom. The world wants to see that God is REAL!
Let’s show them. He lives through us. Jesus IS Lord!
Thank you, Michael.

Well Michael, I can see from the sentiments that are already being expressed here that there is significant agreement with your perspective. Since I chimed in last week when I couldn’t help myself after reading the comments by the gentleman you referred to in today’s message, I felt like I had to at least weigh in today and congratulate you for expressing these sentiments so artfully.
This subject stirs me as well — particularly after witnessing so much error being taught by well-intentioned (I hope) but nevertheless religiously-minded individuals. We have poisoned the minds of Believers with a pathogenic lie that sets them up for an internal conflict whenever they pursue their God-given purpose with excellence. Thank you for exposing this lie for what it is and for addressing it head on.
I applaud you, sir.
April 15th, 2008 at 10:15 am
You are so right on, Mr. Pink! Keep up the good work! It has taken me well nigh onto 60 years to “get” this message because of what had been programmed into me by Christians. With God, I hope to become one of those who can help fund His end time message to the lost and hurting. I have the tools if I can just get things moving! Your materials that I have are invaluable. Thank you for being obedient to the Master!
April 15th, 2008 at 10:21 am
Michael, thank you so much for your insight on wealth, business, etc. Here is an example of wanting to have more to give but unable to. Missionaries came to our church a couple of months ago to speak on what God is doing in Israel/Palestine where they are in ministry. The brother spoke so wonderfully and eloquently under the anointing of the Holy Spirit that I was so touched (as were others) that I went up to thank the brother. I told him that to see how God is working through his obedience made me want to give more to Missions, and I meant it! To my knowledge the latest martyr for Christ died outside the building of this ministry, and Christ was glorified in a wonderful way. But you see I can’t give right now because of the indebtedness in our lives on which we are praying and taking measures as we speak, because I’m tired of this indebtedness and it’s bondage. At the end of 2007 and the beginning of 2008 the Lord was speaking to me about closing a chapter in my life, starting with new beginnings and about “changing my mindset”. I have been meditating upon this for a while and have realized this change needs to come about in this indebtedness as well as in the way we view riches and wealth. Our focus must be to desire and want to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and to put our eyes on the big picture. If our missionaries, who many live below poverty levels, would have enough money for their ministries imagine what God could do through all of us if we are able to give abundantly? But many do have to itinerize and hope that many of us will give so they can so the work a little more easily to bring others into the Kingdom. Let us not be “closed minded” and let the Lord change our mindsets, not for our consumption, but for those in places who need to hear the Gospel and be saved. Michael, thanks for being frank with us.
April 15th, 2008 at 10:26 am
I agree with your message; I am with you, but how do I do that? My business is so expense laden that I may as well be working for someone else. How do I turn it around?
April 15th, 2008 at 10:32 am
Amen. Continue to cry aloud and spare not. We all know that the gospel is free, but unfortunately, media time, vehicles, gas, buildings, airplane tickets and other things necessary to spread it are not. Keep on going Michael, and don’t look back!
April 15th, 2008 at 10:38 am
Thank you thank you thank you for reaching out to people with this particular message with such heart and conviction. Praise God! Keep going you are so right on!!!!
April 15th, 2008 at 10:45 am
AMEN! i’m so tired of Christians being mealy-mouthed and weak! it’s time for us to TAKE AUTHORITY, TAKE BACK what the enemy has stolen, and HAVE ETERNAL IMPACT for the KINGDOM OF GOD! money for money’s sake is to be shunned, but money for the sake of the KINGDOM should be pursued vigorously. how can my church build a new larger building to preach the Gospel message to the unsaved and have eternal impact without money? when was the last time you got something for free?! and, before you get excited that we’re building a larger building, the FIRST nickel of every dollar we raise for the building GOES TO MISSIONS work. RISE UP PEOPLE! ADVANCE THE KINGDOM, IMPACT THE CULTURE FOR CHRIST!
April 15th, 2008 at 11:09 am
All of the positngs are indeed, offering us, the readers, a myriad of view points and all have value and deserve consideration. As to churches needing money to build bigger buildings, meet expenses to “build the Kingdom of God” etc etc. May I interject this view? When/if Christians go forth into the marketplace and live and behave “differently” than the secularist mind-set, the market place becomes our pulpit, our homes become a place of nurturing FIRST to our families and then beyond. The bigger our family the more time it takes to tending our congregation. Our homes should be our sanctuary– offering a place to eat together, pray together, play together, and teach (nurture) and be taught–”a child shall/may/can lead”. Much money is wasted supporting buildings and hired personnel –a church on every corner”–to do the work of the “disciples” of Christ who “GO” into all the world everyday–”to make disciples” and in terms of money, those expenses are already a part of our every day expenses as we “GO” to work, walk in our neighborhoods, interact with all those who are in our lives for various reasons. Money is not the issue–stewardship of both money and TIME is.
April 15th, 2008 at 11:20 am
Thank you soooo much for your insight and bluntness. We have gotten so caught up in the medias spin on spiritial stuff that people have plain out in out gotten off at the wrong stop of the train ride. My husband and I had the opportunity to attend the conference in Atlanta with Os Hillman and frankly we need to step up to the challenge of the transferance of wealth from society into the Kingdom of God. In fact we started our real estate business in the worst of times because we were www.lancelearning.com Divinely directed to do.We have since made a journey of complete stripping away of our own self reliance only to find the Father waiting patiently for us to be our one and only means of provision. I believe with everything that is in me that we each need to make a journey to our promise land and some want to stay in the desert, some want to return to Egypt but we choose to endure and make it to the Promise Land that He has chosen for us. The founding mission statement for Kingdom Realty is taking back the land one piece at a time for the Kingdom of God. Little did we know that this would be the presidence for the transferance of wealth to the Kingdom that He would use. You see each time we list a property to
sell the money comes out of the hands of others and into the hands of those who are obiediant to His direction. If we are so willing to be used in this how much more are others. And if we all take on this direction how many more will need to constantly be begging for the dollars of others. I
am so tired of people jumping on a band wagon that we are to be poor and destitut that I frankly could throw up. How can we ever take back what has been stolen if we lye around like a dog on a tack and never move, only complain. Two thumbs up to you Mr Pink and may God continue to richly bless you and all you efforts. The Kingdom needs money to prosper and provide for the things that need to be done. I pray that your message came accross and will open the eyes of those who need vision.
April 15th, 2008 at 11:23 am
HOORAY FOR YOU!!! You said things in this blog that have been on my heart for years, but I’ve never heard another “mainstream” Christian come out publicly. That is, the Church having effectively neutered itself from being able to be an influence in politics and government because of the 501(c)3 issue.
Praise God. Somebody finally said it.

WELL SPOKEN! Thank you for being bold and brave enough to challenge God’s people to be tools in the hands of their Master for the purpose of putting money into HIS Kingdom.
I’ve become wearied of hearing God’s people speak as though they are afraid of money. We are to fear none but the Lord - and certainly not Mammon! Your challenge flies directly in the face of that and I am incredibly appreciative of your stance!
May Father bless you for your willingness to stand (even when it might seem you would have to do it alone)

Very good article!!! It is time we Christians grew up and mature to be the people God created us to be……… so we can truly rule and reign with Him. Keep it up Michael……… Jim
April 15th, 2008 at 11:38 am
Right On!! Well said! It is time for the people of God to stop giving in to the lies of the enemy and to begin going forward with ‘all’ the resources Jesus has given for us to ‘use’. As Peter Daniels, the Australian Christian Billionaire recently said - “the Christian poverty spirit mindset was a master stroke of Satan”. Its time to break that thing and start acting and thinking like the ‘chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation’, not the defeated ones we display now.
Thank you!
April 15th, 2008 at 11:51 am
Very good message, because, it is the whole truth. One that everyone needs to hear. Keep speaking it!
April 15th, 2008 at 12:12 pm
Yaay! Thank you so much for boldly speaking the truth from your heart! Jesus spoke more on the topic of MONEY than any other topic!
There is much confusion over the topic of wealth - there are those who preach living a “fasted lifestyle” to appear humble and Christlike, not greedy and materialistic - yet they have little to give to building of the Kingdom except their talents and testimony.
I have seen pastors in opulent homes, but are filled with the Holy Spirit and are going to the nations preaching and healing and performing miracles! Wealth and Christlikeness are NOT mutually exclusive!
Thank you for your boldness to speak what is in your heart. We need voices like yours to keep us on the straight path.
April 15th, 2008 at 12:14 pm
Oh my goodness! You had me in stitches with that sardonic comment about God’s throne being made out of popsicle sticks!
This is the best article I’ve seen on this topic for awhile. Amazing that, like you say, Believers are willing to be beggars but not rulers! Jesus is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords! But most of us are looking around, wondering who those “Kings” and “Lords” are without realizing “we are it!”
It’s time for us to shake off the slumber, cast off our beggar rags, put on the whole armor of God and the royal garments of Kings and Lords and Children of the King, and take seriously the mandate to be salt and light on the earth and to take dominion in the name of our King. This kind of dominion is exercised through influence, not coercion. It’s exercised in the marketplace through contribution and real connections.
It’s time for Believers to learn what “New media marketing” is all about and the incredible access to the top of the 7 mountains that is available if we are just willing to build bridges and platforms with authenticity, grace and authority.
There’s never been a better day to wake up, take up our beds and walk into our high callings in Jesus Christ!
April 15th, 2008 at 12:32 pm
Your right on Michael! What we can do if we spent our money right and invested correctly. I kick myself when I think of all the dumb things I have done with my money. The Talents Proverb haunts me at times. I’m trying to be the one with 10 and some how end up with the one who has nothing. I’m reading Rich Church Poor Church and the Audio Series. Everything you two say is so true.
I want to pick a fight with these groups. When I say that I mean in the ways Jesus would go after or debate the Pharisees on subjects. But your right, billboards cost money, campaign contributions cost money and on and on it goes.
I will make this happen someway in my life soon.
April 15th, 2008 at 12:35 pm
Amen, amen, amen. Let the Phar-I-sees and Sad-u-sees keep the religious poverty mentality, as if that impresses God. Disciples of Jesus Christ need wealth to go into all the world and preach the gospel using every means available. Jesus Christ Himself had a treasure (Jn 13:29). Ec. 10:19

Thank you for producing sound doctrine from God’s Word; Proverbs 22:4 (KJV) “By humility and the fear of the Lord are riches and honour, and life.” Please know there are those of us that see our role in co-laboring with Christ in Business as Missions as we build The Kindom. Hurray for those who are taking up the call to action from God to learn how to accumulate wealth and storm the gates of influence in the world! I for one intend to set up foundations to give to worthy organizations as the Lord leads. So what’s wrong with prosperity? Absolutely nothing when it is God-directed. I am so tired of this poverty mentality that much of the church has adopted. It’s certainly not helping the widows and orphans in third world countries or America for that matter.

Thank you, Michael. That was well said.

Thank you, I’m tired of fellow christians having the attitude that if you are trying to make money you’re somehow not holy.
April 15th, 2008 at 1:06 pm
Michael,
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!! Bless your heart for having the “sand ” to “tell it like it is” bless God! It is far past time we as Christians take our FULL position in Christ ( the Annointed one and His annointing ) and use His fullness to to accomplish His great commission. Jesus’s first word when He stood up to preach in the Temple was that “He had been annointed to preach the gospel to the poor”. Well, what would you think is the gospel (good news)to a poor man? You ain’t gotta be poor no more!! Excuse my English but you get my point. Bless you my Brother and keep the good fight of faith. Have a blessed day, and I remain…
…in His service and yours,

Today’s post was passionate and powerful. However, what really enhanced the impact was reading all of the great responses! Thank you!
After reading today’s blog and all of the responses I did something that I haven’t done before and I’d encourage everyone reading to do, if you haven’t already. I sent a copy of this blog (with an encouragement to read the responses as well) to just about every Christian business person I know.
This is a great blog and a wonderful community let’s do our best to get more people listening and responding!

Michael - long time since I heard from you and I must say, it is truly inspirational to hear your “heart” - it is right on.
For Too long the heads of believers have been hung low by a “vow of poverty” in order to represent some self demeaning martydom that somehow is MORE spiritual, somehow MORE Christlike. We ARE to be content in whatever circumstance we are in, but that doesn’t mean we are to remain static - because God WANTS to give us the KINGDOM and that always means a paradigm shift in thinking, seeing, believing, “faithing” and acting upon the Holy Spirit’s guidance. I guess we easily can forget the account of the priceless gifts that were brought to Jesus at His birth which in todays value would have made a millionaire many times over. I don’t think that went to His head.
Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteouseness and ALL these THINGS shall be added UNTO you….
Keep in touch…

Wooo Hoooo! GREAT post!
First I have to say, I love, love, loved American Idol singing Shout To The Lord on national television, on the most watched show in America… not one night but two nights in a row! Our God deserves ALL the glory and honor and praise forever and ever!
Michael you really put the the nature of God in perspective when you talked about him not sitting on a popcicle stick throne and walking on gold painted streets! I laughed but I also got a crystal clear picture of what you were talking about.
I pray that as you prepare minister this week, hearts will be made ready to receive all that God has and I pray that your capacity to receive and deliver fresh revelation will be increased!
Be blessed!!!

“Christians seem to be the only army that shoots each other in the back.” A friend of mine made that statement to me the other day when we were discussing some of the very things you touched upon in your most recent blog. The whole “American Idol” thing is a perfect example of how non-Christians view (and dismiss or underestimate) Christians. No one would dream of censoring a reference to a minority or a Muslim, but they felt free to censor the name of Jesus. Then we get all teary eyed when they finally sing the song the right way. The problem is, this is only about money too. Christians make the mistake of believing that Hollywood and TV are “against” them and that we need to overtake TV and Hollywood and claim it for Jesus. Not so fast. The only agenda in Hollywood is MONEY. Whatever pool of money they can swim in, that is where they will go. They have discovered that the evangelical world is filled with money and as long as they can have access to it, they will gladly placate us with a few crumbs from their table. We are lemmings and fools. We have pastors who are willing to cut deals with power brokers in Hollywood because they think Hollywood wants to tell their stories. All Hollywood wants is access to the cash machine. If you can deliver a mega-church congregation with millions of dollars onto their doorstep, they’ll gladly make your stupid movie. Heck, it may even make some money too. But they’re leading us down a path and we prostitute ourselves before them all the while thinking we’re changing Hollywood. It’s a false promise. Yes, if God wants to change Hollywood, He can make that happen. But why can’t He also work through Christians to create something equally compelling and successful? The truth is, Christians rarely unite behind a filmmaker called to create good works. (Exceptions may be “Facing the Giants”, which showed what a singular, united individual church effort could produce. Imagine what a united Christian effort could do!) Christians rarely want to really help others over the hurdles to get good stories told, published, or produced. They withhold the finances from those within the Christian community because of the “risky” investment it may be; yet they willingly open their bank accounts and support the Hollywood establishment because they are enamored with celebrity and mystique and power. If Christians truly wanted to facilitate change, they could do so by using their brains and their bank accounts. Instead, they say one thing and do another. Of course, those who have had any measure of success at being Christian filmmakers and storytellers are not blameless either. They say they want to help change the world, but they keep guarded secrets for fear that someone else may steal the small, limited resource pool of money they have somehow tapped into. They want to protect their success, even if that success rides on leftovers instead of first fruits. It’s hard to blame them since they have to mortgage their homes and max out their credit cards just to get an ultra-low budget film completed. But the result is a crippled cottage industry that most often ends up with limited distribution and the tagline, “not bad for a Christian effort”. That’s what my friend meant when he said, “Christians seem to be the only army that shoots each other in the back.” I agree wholeheartedly with your take on wealth and creating it with a purpose. God chooses whom he will bless financially. Those whom He blesses must choose wisely as to what they will do with that blessing.

SPOT ON! Jesus Christ was the one who rolled up his sleeves and dove head first into the culture. Our culture today is driven by wealth and we can’t play the game without the right equipment and sitting on the sidelines. Keep sending the good stuff. Marc

Thanks, Steve Gulsvig for your contribution!.. And Michael, you have the “cream of the crop” reading your commentaries.
The TRUE church of Jesus Christ is “scattered” and it is not necessarily those who claim to be “da church”.
To Steve: My saying is” The “church” KILLS ITS OWN” Be on the alert for the “JUDAS KISSES” I was raised a preacher’s kid”. How confusing a childhood was that in that enviroment! God lovingly has stood by and with me for 67 years.
Hey “Christians” out there. Read “Crazy for God” by Franky Schaeffer. I weep for him!! I can empathize with him. tHE “CHURCH” NEEDS TO CLEAN UP ITS ACT BEFORE GOING INTO THE MARKETPLACE WHERE I AM.
PRAY FAITHFULLY FOR THE BRETHREN!

When God created the Garden of Eden, man was not lacking for anything. When God established the Promised Land, it was not lacking for anything. What happened in both cases. Man chose to listen to the lies of Satan and refuse the glorious richness of God’s blessings and care. The vow of poverty is man made. It is not God made. God does warn us that you cannot serve God and mammon meaning you cannot allow money to become your God. Money is the root of all evil. However, no where does God say it is sin to have or to make a lot of money. It is a sin if you are not willing to share it with God’s ministries, with the widows, the homeless, the poor, and those in need. God said we are not to be borrowers, but we are to be lenders. Many of us, me included, have placed ourselves at one point in a position where we were/are great debters. This is not God’s intent or will for our lives.
I’m proud God has allowed me in time and through lessons to learn to make money and to cheerfully share it with whom He ask me to share it with once I have given to God’s Church as required by the tithe. And let me tell you, God just keeps giving it back as He promised in Malachi. And God continues to prosper the business and grow my faith. No, there are times in the natural when it looks like we are not going to make our numbers, or maybe we don’t make our numbers one quarter, but God blesses more abundantly the next quarter. Yes, He keeps me on my knees and dependent on Him which is what He wants. God wants us to depend entirely upon Him. Yes, we have to work, but He is faithful to bless our work according to His good will and promises. As God says in Malachi, test me and see if I won’t pour out blessings such as you can hardly receive.
God bless all.

Well said, absolutely needed to be said. What is our problem ? How are we suppose to take back ” The Kingdom ” if we don’t have Kingdom mentality. We need to understand The Lord’s Prayer Matthew 9:13 in it’s fullness. We need to stop being afraid of $$, remember it’s the love of $$ that’s evil not, $$ in itself. Money is a tool to use for God’s Kingdom purposes. My advice to the church is seek Christ first and His righteousness ….. As we do this the subject of wealth will become clearer.
Blessings John 10:10b
April 15th, 2008 at 4:40 pm
Michael - God is moving in the marketplace. He’s raising up voices like to wake up the masses to the lies of Satan. Praise God for your courage to speak aloud, and countless others who God is calling to send this word to the believers who he has equipped to generate wealth and take it back from Babylon and put it to work in the Kingdom. Let’s rest in God and follow His path. He will put wealth into those hands He has tested and will prove faithful. May we be prepared for this outpouring of wealth and prove faithful to Him as we put it to work in the Kingdom. God help us be stewards of His wealth on earth. God bless you, Michael! Thank you!
April 15th, 2008 at 4:52 pm
I guess the fundamental question that’s being asked here is “does God need our financial resources to accomplish His purposes here on earth?”.
Undoubtly we are blessed to be a blessing, need to be good stewards of the gifts we’ve been given, and do everything we do to the Glory of God.
However, the early church had no buildings, web sites, media presentations and experienced great growth. Historically we see that the blood of the martyers has been the seed God has used for dramatic growth (i.e. China). Money is a tool, that’s all. It’s by God’s grace that we’re saved, and I’m more concerned with individual commitments to be students of the Word, rightly dividing the word of truth and the Word of God is the light we need to bring into this present darkness.
April 15th, 2008 at 5:20 pm
Kelda (comment 15 April), I can empathise with you! But in the past couple of years, I have learned to simply trust God that the work we do is as much a vehicle for bringing the Kingdom to where we are, as the money we earn from that work (if any!!) We are currently doing up a property for resale - since that purchase, the market has taken a big hit, the Christian TV station we have helped establish has had a huge workload which only my husband has had the expertise to do, and it has taken months to get the project off the ground. But just yesterday I felt the Lord say that when the house is completed, we are to have a ‘house blessing’ party for all the neighbours and preach the gospel to them. (They keep walking by to see what these crazy people are doing with the house in their street!) He has given me a tract to write for the occasion - all about how God wants to buy us and renovate us just like this house!
So as you see, I now focus not on the income, but on bringing the Kingdom through the work, and let the income take care of itself, to a point, being a good steward in it all.
Love your work Michael, and all my faithful bros and sisters out there!

J. McCarthy - I hear what you’re saying and I too get nervous when our focus becomes money. Our God is the God of miracles and you’re right, he doesn’t NEED our money. However he doesn’t NEED us either but he chose to give us the ministry of reconciliation and to use us. He doesn’t need our money and that shouldn’t be our primary focus but his word tells us to give to the poor, to meet the financial needs of our spiritual leaders, to finance the gospel, to help meet the needs of brothers who are suffering, to give to every good work. He doesn’t NEED our money but he’s chosen to let us take part - and part of the ministry of reconciliation is being prepared personally in God’s word, in holiness and in the power of the Spirit, but it also involves organization, planning, prayer, working together and financing these efforts. Although I agree with what you say about our focus I think that the discussion here today has been about is making money for the Gospel’s sake an evil or a calling and I think that Romans 12:6 - 8 teaches us that giving as well as helping and organizing etc. are gifts - gifts that God blesses us with allows us to use to further his Kingdom. He doesn’t NEED any of it or we could boast - but I’m thankful that, by his grace, he calls and allows us all to get involved and help.

Michael - Long time reader, first time writer. We live in Charlotte, have a son in Greensboro - wish I had known sooner (probably missed an alert), would have tried to be there tonight!
Wow! Am I in agreement with your views on this blog. Too many timid, gutless Christians with no vision, many of whom have extensive financial resources but are too selfish/shortsighted/weak in faith to use them for the Kindom. Dr Lutzer on BBN yesterday talked about “The greater the grace, the greater the judgement.” Amen. We are overdue, but where there is (spiritual) life, there is hope! May God continue to bless you ministry, business, and life, and family, as you pursue the vision HE has given you.

AMEN and AMEN. I just finished “Rich Church-Poor Church” and it was a perfect primer to your remarks. We have got to get over this self-imposed guilt and mock shame when God blesses us materially.
I am keenly interested in you expanding your comments concerning the for profit church versus the 501(c)3 umbrella we constantly hide beneath. Would you please enlighten me further? Once I have read your comments, I will share with you the reasons for my interest.
Bless,
Michael

Hello to All ,
To Rick Osborne, I truly appreciate what and how you spoke truth over this topic . In all this Our Lord gives us a choice with what we have to serve him. It is a love relationship and out of that all that we are, have ( gifts, talents, etc. ) belong to Him. And what is on His heart, it’s hard for us humans to stay about Our Father’s Business but, not impossible !! By the Grace of God we can and will fulfill The Great Commission.

God’s throne is very beautiful but it is in heaven not here on earth. Big difference.
True Repentance, not wealth, is what will give us back the Kingdom.
Isaiah 30:1-5
“Ah, stubborn children,” declares the LORD,
“who carry out a plan, but not mine,
and who make an alliance, but not of my Spirit,
that they may add sin to sin;
who set out to go down to Egypt,
without asking for my direction,
to take refuge in the protection of Pharaoh
and to seek shelter in the shadow of Egypt!
Therefore shall the protection of Pharaoh turn to your shame, and the shelter in the shadow of Egypt to your humiliation.
For though his officials are at Zoan
and his envoys reach Hanes,
everyone comes to shame
through a people that cannot profit them,
that brings neither help nor profit,
but shame and disgrace.”
In 1797, four years after he came to India, William Carey tells us of being confronted by a Brahman. Carey had preached on Acts 14:16 and 17:30 and said that God formerly allowed all men everywhere to go their own way, but now he commands all men everywhere to repent.
Kinda sounds like us today.
April 15th, 2008 at 9:01 pm
What can I say? I was waiting for this comment to come.
What’s surprising, Kern, is that there’s actually something substantive here that you and I agree on.
The Greek word that Paul chose to use in Acts 17:30 is metanoeō, which means:
Nothing could be more accurate regarding what needs to happen within Christianity today where wealth, influence, and discipling nations are concerned. Thankfully, people like Michael Pink are working to help us change our minds from the groveling, stale, poverty mindset that has predominated religious circles for centuries.
It’s interesting to note that you seem to think that the Kingdom has been lost.
Actually, the Kingdom is here — as Jesus said — within us. His mandate, however, was that we spread it here on earth. He sent out the 70 with clear instructions about what to do, and then to announce, “The Kingdom of God has come near you.”
And, since you pointed out the location of His throne, I might remind you that Jesus taught us to pray, “Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.” (Matthew 6:10)
He actually wants it here.

Oh my goodness I never thought I would hear this TRUTH from church leadership. I am a young 20 year old man and I have been having these discussions with my mom for the past 3 years.
Truth! Truth!…..my expression is the same as the woman at the well whose only expression was Truth Lord…when she heard the RHEMA word.

And it will be here but not until after He returns. Old things will pass away, wealth, money, material things and one day we will see clearly.
In America to a large part, it has been lost. We need a revival in America and before a revival, we need to repent. A good example is Nehemiah’s prayer in Nehemiah 1:4-11. we have sinned against you even I and my father’s house have sinned.
April 16th, 2008 at 4:31 am
Thank you for this article. God has delivered me from this poverty mentality upon my return from the mission fields of India where we laboured for 18 months. It was there that my eyes were opened to value the power of wealth in propagating the Good News to the lost. Please believe me that a lack of adequate finances has really been a major stumbling block to world missions everywhere.
God bless you all - remember we are blessed to BE a blessing to others. May God make us all kingdom Millionaires for His Glory.
April 16th, 2008 at 5:24 am
Wow! your message rocks!!!! I pray that God will continue to bless and anoint you. I have struggled with a poverty mentality for years and the Lord has been changing that, re-wiring my circuits for the last few years. In these challenging times, He needs us to be glorified for His name’s sake in every way. Bless you!

Micheal
Keep on keepin on . don’t get discouraged this message is desparately need in the church today
April 16th, 2008 at 8:02 am
BRAVO! VERY well said! I am not wealthy, but I realize that I could have greater influence on the kingdom of God, here on earth if I had less debt (no debt) and gave more of what I have.
Christlikeness does not mean arrogance or pride based upon our income. For me it means having abundant life, and where there is abundance a christlike person will be eager to share and build up the kingdom here on earth. (He came so that we would have life, ABUNDANTLY) THANK you for sharing your message and your wisdom with us. Keep it up. Keep seeking God in all you teach, we need to hear it.
April 16th, 2008 at 8:15 am
Kern,
Please correct me if I’m remembering wrong….didn’t you post a request awhile back- on this site - requesting financial help for some people building a school in a foreign country? (Please forgive me for not remembering the details.) That requires money! How can you read all the fantastic posts here and not see that?
April 16th, 2008 at 8:40 am
Lorisa,
No, that was not me. But it is a great idea.
I never said it is wrong to have money, it is wrong to expect to be wealthy. God never promises wealth. Some, God will bless with money but most he will not. What the Bible does promises is that we will be persecuted.
My point is that our joy must be in God and not in possessions. All Christians should put a cap on our standard of living and keep it. God does not want all Christians to be rich or prosper. Why, I do not know just like he blinds some so they cannot understand the Gospel.
I hope this helps.
April 16th, 2008 at 8:46 am
Sorry Kern, it doesn’t help. NO body here has been talking about possessions or living in luxury!!! I’ve read post after post after post of brothers and sisters in Christ excited at the prospect of being able to further the Kingdom with any wealth they may be blessed with. Not one person speaks of personal gain.
April 16th, 2008 at 8:51 am
Kern,
I do agree what this country needs is a revival. It’s been said that only a few small percentage of believers actually tithe. If the church tithed, what would happen? Some are saying that our economy would rapidly change, because social service programs would no longer need to be funded by the government. In a church I was in several years ago, our pastor was part of the staff at the Brownsville Revival School of Ministry. It was said of the church at the time that 80% of them tithed. I’m not equating the fact that the revival came because they tithed, but I am saying that they were able to do much in the way of serving the larger body of Christ because people gave.
However, I do disagree with you in some respects. Specifically, it seems that you may think (correct me if I’m wrong) that God only once in a while impacts earthly reality with material blessings so that his people can impact their world. Psalms clearly says that though riches increase, do not set your heart on them. I understand the concern because money has taken many down, but I believe we must mature through that so that God can trust us with more. It’s a heart issue for sure, that God is on the throne of our life. But it’s also a belief that God sanctions certain professions above others. Dallas Willard says that in order to become disciples we must begin to think that Jesus could have actually come and done our job (prior to his public ministry). He could have just as easily been a banker, construction worker, salesperson, etc as he was a carpenter. I know I struggle with this, and I believe much of the church does as well, and because of this, we do not mature as disciples, because we do not see or welcome God working in and caring about our everyday life. We may think we do, but the true test is what our practice looks like.
Bless you man!
Dennis
April 16th, 2008 at 8:54 am
Hi Kern
Remember to whom much is given much is expected - so whoever possesses material riches an account to God must be given in the end. A true Christian would not love the Lord more if he had more riches, neither would love the Lord less if he did not have possessions.
An ideal scenario would be for a Christian to love the Lord with all his heart and soul and then trust God for wealth to be extend His Kingdom as much as he can in this world.
The possibilty of failing God by becoming wealthy should not obviate the possibility of bringing great blessings to the Kingdom. remember we must reach our generation before the baton is passed to the next.
Stanley
April 16th, 2008 at 9:09 am
Dennis,
God will use both money and poverty to accomplish His will and purpose.
Jesus talked more about money that anything else. Why? One reason I believe is He knew how quick we are to start loving money and possessions over Him. As Paul said in Romans, I do the things I hate. All through the Bible we are warned again and again about desiring worldly wealth and not being content.
In Proverbs 30, Agur ask God to give him neither poverty or riches.
My question is this; ask yourself this question, if God ask you to sell all you had and move to a remote part of the earth, would you do it? I am afraid most Christians have become entangled and in love with our worldly possessions and would not.
I am not saying everyone should sell all we have and move, but our attitude should be Yes, Lord. I will do it.
April 16th, 2008 at 9:13 am
Lorisa,
I have to disagree with you, but as Christians we can still love each other, but disagree.
April 16th, 2008 at 9:15 am
To Lorisa, Dennis, & Stanley –
The problem with trying to reason with Kern is that, despite his good intentions and what I’m sure is a pure heart toward God, he is religiously brainwashed.
Religion attempts to police the joy and freedom of people who are not under its thumb. This is why it always goes after people who are accomplishing something. The implication is that if you have money, then you’re at significant risk of losing sight of your walk with God.
It seems clear to me that people who lack money are actually the ones who are more inclined to, “…place their trust in uncertain riches.” When you are doing without, it’s a lot easier to think, “If only I had money, my problems would go away.”
In reality, of course, with increased resources comes significantly increased responsibility. What God is looking for where His children is concerned isn’t that we get free from our problems, but instead that we mature. Jesus said, “If you are faithful in little, you will be ruler over much.” This means that if we stay poor (or in control of little), as Kern seems to imply must be the will of God for some, then we have remained unfaithful. With faithfulness comes increased responsibility. Period. Certainly this principle applies in areas other than just money, but you simply cannot separate this law from money because it was in the context of money that Jesus spoke it.
I don’t see any scriptural basis whatsoever for one person making a decision about what the appropriate standard of living would be for another individual. Arguing that I should have a cap on my standard of living because I’m a Christian is nonsensical.
Lest there exist any uncertainty about it, I absolutely concur that we must keep our hearts right toward God and our trust in Him alone. In so doing, however, I become a vessel that He can use to accomplish His objective: to establish His Kingdom on earth and to disciple nations. God is not a slave master that would require me to make bricks without straw. Significant resources are necessary for the call on our lives. As long as we believe there’s something wrong with having straw, we will continue to slave away and spend all of our days eking out an existence rather than accomplishing our purpose.
April 16th, 2008 at 9:20 am
Ok I have to admit I am confused. It seems as if we have two camps One camp seems to have a belief in the need for believers to have resources to then have influence…the other camp seem to focus on the need for believers to not focus on wealth well I may be crazy but I think this is a both and issue not an either or issue. No one is talking about believers hoarding amassing and selfishly using resources (which I prefer to talk about more than money) I think we can all agree that this is not biblical but I would hope that we would all agree that if we are called to be stewards that we need something to steward there is much to be done to advance God’s kingdom and while it is niether the ulitmate or final answer that can best be done with resources
April 16th, 2008 at 9:23 am
Carl Emerson,
You are correct that I am brainwashed. Romans 12:2 I am brainwashed with God’s Word.
April 16th, 2008 at 9:31 am
Kern - Now go read Romans 12:12
April 16th, 2008 at 9:37 am
To Quote Michael:
The purpose of wealth is to establish the covenant. Even with Christ in us, working through us, in the last 50 years we as Christians have established very little.
The problem that I have with this is the assertion that influence comes thru the vehicle of wealth and we can influence our culture thru success and achievement. Jesus plainly said “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself, pickup his cross and follow me”. The message wasn’t attractive back in the times of Christ, and it’s still a difficult message to swallow, no matter how much money you throw at it. Jesus said “Broad is the road that leads to destruction, and MANY there are that find it.”. Quite
possibly our lack of success in the last 50 years has more to do with the demands of the gospel. I still believe its transformed lives (spirit filled) and the Word of God that will influence the culture and that God will put you in position (i.e. Daniel, Paul) to speak without having to have these superficial platforms. No, it’s not wrong to work hard and make money, or be wealthy. But our walk is to be a walk of faith, and the problem with money is that is can be (not always) a substitute.
April 16th, 2008 at 9:48 am
Lorisa,
Did you mean Romans 12:13?
Everyone, I really do enjoy you comments. I enjoy your comments and have benefited from them. Iron sharpens iron.
I hope that all my comments are taking in love and we are suppose to love one another. If we all agree on everything, what a dull body of Christ we would all be.
I love you all,
Kern

Busted! Yes, it is actually verse 13. I went to verse 12 to begin with because I read your post as “12″ instead of “2″. Was really confused for a minute. Maybe a little divine intervention?
God Bless you, Kern! You do get me thinking!!

Carl,
I have to disagree, I don’t think Kern is religiously brainwashed and I don’t think that’s a good thing to say to a brother. Kern buddy, I commend you for being able to voice your disagreements. To me, that’s a sign of openness.
Kern, I agree, some have put their trust in riches and if Jesus were to say to them to sell all and move to a remote part of the earth, they would struggle with that. If we’re going to be fair and balanced though (where have I heard that?), I believe we also have to ask the reverse, which is, what is Jesus said to someone that I’m going to give you untold riches and honor and a platform for My glory, so go through the school of hard knocks, learn everything you can, have your character developed to the point where you can be trusted with riches, and more importantly, with loving others, especially those who have deeply hurt you and disagreed with you?
If we don’t see that as a possible question of Jesus to somone, then we discount the story of Joseph. I have a strong hunch that when Paul wrote all things work together for good to those that love God, he had in mind (however that works with the Holy Spirit inspiring-breathing on-the writers of Scripture) Joseph’s situation. We would also discount Solomon. True Solomon fell, but to then say that we should shun that call is to blame God for Solomon’s sin, and not Solomon himself. The call was pure and right, the person did not handle it right.
Again, we must mature, as Michael has written, to the place where God can trust us. I believe also that, we must see that God can require this for His purpose. I might also add that in some of us, in our quest to not be materialists from a consumption standpoint, we have thrown the baby out with the bathwater. Our intent has been good, but we have done the wrong thing. Again, if we take that line of thinking, then we should not feed the poor, clothe the naked, etc. The Bible is very clear that a true sign of Christian spirituality is impacting the physical realm and it takes resources to do that.
Bless you man!

In my point about that if take the line of thinking of avoiding the material realm, because we do not want to be materialists, that we then do not feed the poor, etc, the point that I’m making is that the logical outcome of that thinking is not impacting the material realm. If we say heaven is our home, focus on heaven, yes, all well and good and we should. However, I’m coming to learn that we will actually reign on the earth with Jesus for 1000 years! We will physically reign on the earth, impacting the different spheres of life, economics, agriculture, social, political, etc. I believe this is a literal, 1000 year reign. This life serves as a womb of sorts preparing us for the hereafter. If we disconnect because we see the world as evil (which it is), we are not doing our job of going out into all the world (business, other realms) and making disciples, people who come to be like Jesus in all He did.
Our “-ology,” be it theology, etc., is extremely important. If we do not think right, and constantly check our thinking and re-check our thinking, which is really what I believe to be a strong part of renewing our minds, then we can rob ourselves of the life God would have us have, and as Romans 12 indicates, we can miss His will!
Again, these platforms are not superficial! To say that is to say that only preachers and missionaries, and those others in “church” related work are truly the only ones serving God. Wrong! That is to discount the Word of God and the call of God on 97% of the Body of Christ. That is wrong. We each have a sphere we are called to. And Jesus does call us to excellence in that sphere. If we disagree with that, we disagree with becoming like Him (He does all things well!). Then maybe we should ask Him to just move the earth a little bit out of its orbit, so that one side of, being closer to the sun, gets scorched, and the other side becomes a polar icecap (boy, would that mess up some of the folks on the climatology issue!). That line of thinking is absurd.
The hardest thing is changing our thinking because our thought patterns can be very stubborn, very ingrained. But we must fight that battle!
Blessings,
Dennis

Dennis - We are all called to be “ministers of reconciliation”, no one has
said on this blog that only preachers and missionaries are the chosen
ones to deliver the message. If that’s what you took from my posting, that would be inaccurate. What’s being debated are the methods - how we reach the lost - please read 1 Cor. 2:1-5.

J. McCarthy,
I love those verses, some of my favorite! And I believe they are a worthwhile goal for all of us. Not discounting that in any way, if we as Christians exhibit the character of Christ in the workplace, exemplified by doing good work and in some cases, excelling from a worldly perspective, that is a very solid platform to stand on and a witness in and of itself.
I think there’s a huge disconnect in our thinking if we think that being successful is somehow divorced from being with God. That is not to say all will be successful in the same way, or that that is our ultimate aim; being like Jesus is. But to say that there is no impact in the material realm is to disconnect God from the world in my view, and is a subset of stoicism and fatalism and deism, both of which are not Christian mindsets. I’m not saying you or anyone else has these per se, it’s something we as a church are fighting, though.
Blessings,
Dennis

I agree with you totally. God meant for us to be the lenders not the borrowers and the head and not the tail. It’s about time we believed
His Word. We are suppose to be establishing His Kingdom here on earth
as it is in heaven!! It will take money and God owns it all so therefore
we are co-heirs with Jesus! Praise God for you and your honesty. The
people who believe otherwise are listening not to our creator…I wonder
who they are listening to??

One thing is weather we are rich or poor, one thing is for sure, we all need to treasure Christ more than life itself.
Paul show that Christ is his treasure by life?
The answer is given in Philippians 3:7-8:
Whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. 8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ.”
In other words, Paul displays the worth of Christ by counting everything else as loss for Christ’s sake. “I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of Christ.” Which means that the life that displays the worth of Christ—the unwasted life—is the life that uses everything to show that Christ is more valuable that it is. Money is used to show that Christ is more valuable than money. Food is used to show that Christ is more valuable than food is. Houses and lands and cars and computers are used to show that Christ is more valuable than they are. Family and friends and your own life are a place to show that Christ is more valuable than any of them.
The way we display the supreme worth of Jesus in our lives is by treasuring Christ above all things, and then making life choices that show that our joy is not finally in things or even in other people, but in Christ.
May we all treasure Christ more than life itself. If we start doing that, we will turn the world upside down for Him.

Michael, I so admire you. What a wonderful vision you have. Thank you for actively seeking to make it a reality. You are right to say it can be done. I so appreciate that you are not speaking about making money for the sake of having money, but for the up-building of the kingdom.
So many times I have been distraught over hearing my former pastor disregard different areas of ministry for fear of losing the tax exemption. My answer was, then lose it! It’s just a tool of the government to control our ability to spread the gospel more deeply into society. The government is NOT our source. God is. When will these preachers learn this and stop allowing ‘money’ to be a tool used against us. And as for all these grants, etc., they are nothing more than Trojan horses. How blind can we be?
My post on April 15th sounded so hopeless. Sorry about that. I had just had my taxes done and was feeling a bit overwhelmed. Reading all these posts and listening to the video nudged me back to the reality that I have the power to change this, and by the grace of God I intend to do just that.
Thanks to Chrissie who addressed me personally. I appreciate very much your concern and comments. I have overcome the April 15 shock and am now seeing clearly again.
Michael, keep spreading the message.

Michael,
You are RIGHT ON. Ignore the naysayers. I appreciate your courage & wisdom. Wealth & riches are in my house, and I AM debt-free that He may establish His covenant here on earth, in Jesus’ Name.
It is written!

Michael,
Either you’ve changed or my perception of you has changed. I actually agreed with what you said in your recent e-mail - “Grow up and grow rich” - wholeheartedly and enthusiastically.
I desperately need something. I am one of those Christians that you talked about. Sitting behind church walls waiting for a 501 (c) 3 (I think that that particular law should be abolished - separate true believers from the religious ones) handout. Although I have many gifts, I have somehow been unable to rise to the level that I know God has for me.
I have been calling myself a missionary, but it’s embarrassing to have to do the Lord’s work where most of the time you’re asking for money. Something’s wrong.
I know that where there is vision and enthusiasm and purpose, everything else falls into line.
Although I know very little about the movie industry, as I have been seeking the Lord, I believe the Lord is showing me that I am to make a movie.
I want to make a movie that vividly portrays the reality of hell. If it’s well made, even sinners will go see it and get saved. But I believe there will be a blessing in it for me as well (look at the 100’s of millions that Braveheart made for his film on the crucifiction) even though that’s not my main objective.
What does someone like me do to get started?
Thanks,
John

Thank you sir for your understanding of the Kingdom. Keep saying what you are saying. I for one am extremely grateful for your effort to pull back the veil from the minds of so many sleeping Christians. I will say, the Lord has been saying to me for years, what you have just said in this article. How do we as Christians ever hope to advance God’s Kingdom with the pathetic, and sometimes demonic mindsets that we have allowed to blind us through most of our lives. You shall know the truth, and the truth will set you free!! Keep preaching and teaching the truth my friend!! God is definitely making a difference in those who want the truth. If God is for you…….who or what can be against you. In Christ…Dan

about the kingdom of GOD for the kingdom of GOD is at hand and we are to live in and walk it daily.

God spoke to me this morning about the media, that we should infiltrate it
When He told us to take dominion, He meant it
Also, last year He gave me a vision for a new CNN
A Christian News Network
I am to delve into this field and estabish His will on earth
via this medium of communication

I know you get frustrated with all the negative words about wealth, but you have to remember that it was programmed into the mind of many Christians for years that wealth was evil, so let us continue to pray for our brethren so God will reveal to them the importance of begin able to function as whole in every area of their life, not in word only, but deeds/

Thank You,

Shout it out!!! Well said it is High Time we take back not what the devil has stolen but what we in our false humility & religious piousness freely let him have. Those days are over it’s time we become what God has intended, the lender & not the borrower. For it is He God who gives you the power or wisdom to get wealth so He through the wise can establish His covenant. Lets take back the media, the film industry, the music industry, fill in the blanks where has God called you or given you talents. Come on church read Proverbs again & again. It’s full of principles & reasons why some are wealthy & others are not. If your Heart is truly for God then of course your motives will be right and it wont just be about obtaining money to satisfy your lusts the book of James talks about that. Rather then you will desire for Him to be able to use you in such a way that He will be able to entrust you with His wealth. Notice how i said His for the one that is ready to handle this type
