No Good Thing Will He Withhold…

August 3rd, 2009 | Michael Q. Pink

“For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will He withhold from them that walk uprightly.” (Psalm 84:11)

Do you ever get tired? I have been working exceedingly hard with much intensity, especially the last four months as I have written the equivalent of two more full length books. In addition, I have been turning the writing into filming and turning it all into an online mentoring program, which I hope to roll out before Labor Day. It will be the most significant attempt at transferring the inheritance of my heart to you, ever.

As you can imagine, when you take on a mammoth project, it can be quite taxing and this morning in the Word, I felt directed to this passage in Psalms. It’s a promise from God (who always keeps His promises) that He not only illuminates and protects, that He not only gives grace (His influence and ability on us) and glory (weightiness or substance), but He also adds to that the commitment that He will not hold back any good thing from those who walk uprightly.

Are there any good things you are lacking today? Could be material needs or spiritual comfort. Could be emotional strength or physical healing. There is no good thing that He will withhold from those who walk uprightly. By virtue of the fact that He says He will not withhold it, suggests to me, that we must first ask… and believe.

Seems like a timely word to me. Be blessed today my dear brothers and sisters.

    Thanks. I needed this today.

  2. Pastor Rick in Santa Barbara Says:

This appears to be common message that God is repeating in many, many circles. Though times appear to be tough, they are actually going to get tougher. Jesus said so, “unless the days be shortened, none would be saved.”
So we MUST stand firm in our faith, imagine life right now not having Jesus to rely on.

  3. Chris Phillips Says:

Wow that was on time! I needed that.

What if the things that God thinks are good for you are things that the world do not think are good for you? In 2 Cor 4, Paul talks about carrying around the death of Jesus in his body. He has received the persecution and beatings so that the all-surpassing power is see as being from God and not from man. Does this mean that the best things we receive are the things that bring God the glory? That these things are better than temporal blessings?

Right before I received this, I was talking to the University about the Psych class I needed. I was told the hold was taken off and I would haev to keep trying to see if someone drops. This course is pre-required before I can take other classes. As I was talking to her, I felt the nudge of the Holy Spirit to go on-line to register. As she is telling me that she is on-line adn there is no seats, I went on and there was 1 remaining. I told her this and registered for the class and received the seat. On her end, nothing became available. Thank you Lord that I can even claim Your belief as mine and just be obedient unto You.

Thank you Michael for another great post. Your posts are always edifying, encouraging and adding value to my own personal life. A scripture that comes to me after reading this is where Jesus says (paraphrased), “In the world you will have trials and tribulations, but be of good cheer I have overcome the world.” He is the way and will make a way for us if we trust Him.

  7. Kelly Liberto Says:

Thank you Michael for your continued encouragement and timely words for the body of Christ. I surely needed to hear this word today!!

  8. Adam Says:

    Thanks Michael!

    Good word….!!!

  9. John Says:

    Kyle K.,

    I think you are right.

  10. Mark Sneed Says:

Ps. 37:4 also says “Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart”!

  11. Joe Nathan Says:

    To Mark Sneed,

Does Ps 37:4 indicate that God fulfills your desires or that He gives you the desires that you have within.

  12. Mark Sneed Says:

    Joe,

I believe that when we delight ourselves in the Lord our desires become what He desires for us. Those desires are not necessarily the desires that we have within, as those would be selfish desires, but rather they are the desires that He gives us. So, this verse is not promising us whatever we want simply by obeying the Lord!

Charles Spurgeon said “Men who delight in God desire or ask for nothing but what will please God”.

  13. Bob Noah Says:

If I have yielded to him, and his holy spirit dwells within, there is no difference. A holy heart is drawn to God and his will, as the deer pants for the water brooks.

Psalm 42:1 As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.
